The Centre for Food Safety has urged the public not to consume 21 batches of powdered infant and young children formula from brands including Nestlé NAN and Wyeth Illuma due to possible cereulide contamination.
The affected batches, imported by Nestlé Hong Kong, may contain raw materials potentially tainted with cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus. The company has voluntarily stopped sales, removed products from shelves and initiated a recall.
The precaution follows Nestlé's recent recall of certain batches in parts of Europe. Bacillus cereus is commonly found in the environment, and its heat-stable toxin can cause gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting and diarrhoea.
Parents are advised not to use the affected batches and to seek medical help if infants or young children show discomfort. Retailers should halt sales immediately.
For recall enquiries, call Nestlé Hong Kong at 2599 8874. The centre will continue to monitor the situation.
