A total of nine fast-charging bays are now available for Guangdong electric vehicles entering Hong Kong at the newly opened charging station on Chak Yan Road in Penny’s Bay.
The facility, built and operated by CLPe, a subsidiary of CLP Power, is located about 10 minutes from the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and near Hong Kong Disneyland and Inspiration Lake.
The station provides five China-standard and four European-standard bays, operating around the clock with a maximum output of 240 kilowatts. The chargers can replenish about 60 percent of a vehicle’s battery in 10 minutes, enough for two round-trips across the bridge.
Electricity is priced at HK$3.9 per kilowatt-hour, with a 20 percent discount offered during the first month. Multiple payment options are available, including Alipay, WeChat Pay, Octopus and credit cards.
CLPe managing director Ringo Ng Wing-ho said the site has been designed to expand to as many as 40 bays to meet growing cross-border traffic. CLPe currently operates 30 charging stations across Hong Kong with more than 240 bays and plans to expand to nearly 1,000 within two years, including new China-standard facilities in urban parking lots.
