Four workers collapsed while renovation work was underway at Mong Kok East MTR station on Monday afternoon (Dec 22).
According to reports, at around 2.41pm, six outsourced workers were carrying out renovation work in a station changing room and using a petrol-powered generator to operate spraying equipment. They were suspected of inhaling excessive carbon monoxide, with four of them collapsing.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene and two workers were first taken to Kwong Wah Hospital, where they later regained consciousness. The remaining two collapsed workers were subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance and also regained consciousness.
Sources said the changing room was confined in size and the exhaust fan had been switched off during the renovation works. Large amounts of carbon monoxide were released from the generator, with poor ventilation suspected to have led to the workers inhaling excessive fumes.
Police are investigating the incident.
