CLP Power confirmed a fault occurred in an 11,000-volt power supply system in the area at about 4.13pm. Supply to approximately 4,000 customers was restored remotely within four minutes, with the remaining customers regaining power by about 5pm. An investigation into the exact cause is underway.
During the outage, a meter room at Lok Tung House in Lok Fu Estate reportedly emitted smoke, causing a brief power loss in the building. HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity posted on social media about experiencing its "first major power outage since opening," with teachers conducting lessons in darkness and students using phone flashlights to find books in the library.
Kowloon City Plaza and nearby malls were also plunged into darkness for about 10 minutes. At Hong Kong Baptist University's S.H. Ho Campus, staff and students were reportedly trapped in an elevator during the outage, requiring fire service assistance.
Police were also called to manage traffic at the junction of Boundary Street and Dumbarton Road after traffic lights malfunctioned.
CLP said it dispatched staff promptly to inspect and repair the system and maintained close contact with affected customers through client managers and community support teams.
