The customers, who had rented a Nissan Fairlady, later reported abnormal rear-wheel noise. When the car was inspected, technicians found the handbrake had been worn down and deformed from being driven while partially engaged, indicating improper operation.
Upon the couple's request for a thorough investigation, the company reviewed dashcam footage. It showed the vehicle drifting on the racetrack, with the man commenting on losing traction and the woman noting a burnt smell. Audio captured them discussing how to hide the incident from the rental company.
The rental firm stated the damage resulted from deliberate violation of terms, not vehicle defects. It charged the couple for repairs and added them to a permanent blacklist.
Industry experts warn that taking rental cars to racetracks is extremely dangerous as such vehicles lack necessary safety modifications. Standard rental insurance does not cover accidents on racetracks, leaving renters fully liable for any damage or injuries.
