34 live lizards seized in air cargo from Indonesia

Customs officers seized 34 live lizards suspected to be endangered species in an air cargo shipment from Indonesia, with an estimated market value of about HK$20,000.

Officers inspected the consignment yesterday after a risk assessment. The shipment was declared as packaging materials but was found to contain live lizards hidden inside a concealed compartment of a wooden box.

The case has been handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for follow-up.
