A 40-year-old solicitor who posed as a man in his late twenties on the Heymandi dating app was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison on Thursday after admitting he twice had sex with a 12-year-old girl he met online and filmed the encounters.
Kelvin Luk Kin-ting had pleaded guilty in the District Court to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years of age, two counts of making child pornography, and one count of inducing a child under 16 to create pornographic material.
The court heard that after meeting the girl in early 2023, Luk took her to Ma Wan’s Park Island and later to his own flat, where he persuaded her to undress, photographed her naked, and had unprotected sex with her on two separate occasions while recording hundreds of images and videos. Some of the material was sent back to the girl.
Deputy District Judge Katherine Lo Kit-yee rejected the defense claim that the pair were in a consensual “boyfriend-girlfriend” relationship, saying Luk had exploited the child’s curiosity purely for his own gratification.
She noted that if he had genuinely cared for the girl he would have used protection, and described his actions as predatory.
The case came to light when the girl’s father checked her phone and found explicit chats and photos; he immediately reported it to police.
