Japanese media reported that the SAR government has suspended official exchanges with the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong, following disruptive comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
According to Kyodo News, an exchange event between Japanese and Hong Kong enterprises organized by Invest Hong Kong was initially scheduled for November 18. However, the SAR government is said to have requested officers from the Japanese consulate not to attend.
Following the negotiation between the two sides, the event has been postponed.
In addition, a meeting between senior officials of the SAR government and Consul-General Miura Jun, scheduled for the beginning of December, was canceled by the government.
The Security Bureau has issued alerts for traveling to Japan on November 15, saying that there has been an increasing trend of attack incidents against Chinese citizens in Japan since mid-2025.
