As one of the host sites, Kai Tak Sports Park has emphasized a “barrier-free and inclusive” philosophy since its planning stage. The complex incorporates a range of accessibility features, including designated seating for wheelchair users and patrons with visual impairment, barrier-free routes, tactile and braille floor plans, and various assistive technologies designed to accommodate diverse needs.
But the management notes that inclusiveness goes beyond physical infrastructure. To strengthen staff understanding of inclusive service, the sports park recently partnered with the Hong Kong PHAB Association to conduct experiential training on “Accessible Guest Services.”
The program invited frontline and office staff to experience the challenges that people with disabilities may face when navigating venues and communicating with service staff.
Through simulated daily scenarios, participants learned techniques for assisting wheelchair users and visitors with visual impairment, while also developing empathy and quick-response skills.

During events, frontline teams will provide accessible support and language assistance to ensure that guests receive attentive service.
Corporate departments — including event operations, facilities management, and public affairs — are expected to incorporate these insights into daily workflows to continuously refine procedures and amenities.
Visitors will also be able to access real-time information through the sports park’s mobile app, which features an intelligent navigation system and detailed guidance on barrier-free facilities throughout the venue.
The sports park says it hopes these combined efforts will create a friendlier, more inclusive environment for athletes and spectators during the upcoming games and beyond.
