Under the lights of Kai Tak, a red sea of supporters is ready—armed with a newly designed Tifo and roaring voices—to fuel the Hong Kong team’s quest for a place at the 2027 AFC Asian Cup tonight.
In a "do-or-die" clash for group survival, Hong Kong will face Singapore at 8pm in its third home game at Kai Tak Sports Park.
Speaking on a radio program, Chester Cheung, a member of a Hong Kong fan group, revealed that supporters will unveil a unique Tifo composed of double-sided cards, creating a dynamic, two-in-one display.
After a month of preparation with the sports park, Cheung noted that the display would be similar in size to the previous one, covering Blocks 217 to 220, with the aim of energizing the home team and intimidating the opposition.
Cheung added that fans would enter the venue as early as 3pm, with efforts made to reserve spots in the cheering section for seasoned fans, ensuring they can lead the home crowd and create a true home advantage.
Regarding tips for attending fans, Chester humorously suggested bringing throat lozenges.
He recalled a recent match against Bangladesh, where although the energy was present, it lacked unity, describing it as "50,000 fans, but only 10,000 effective cheers." He hopes for a more synchronized and powerful atmosphere tonight.
As for the stadium's roof, Cheung mentioned that while arrangements are in place, he personally believes keeping it closed would benefit the home team by creating a supportive echo.
He added that the cooler evening weather, trapped inside, could also challenge the visiting Singapore squad, who are accustomed to a warmer climate.
Cheung also reminded the attending fans that a cheering manual was available on their social media, where they can gain information about various songs, rhythms as well as the Tifo formation.
“Tonight, we will cheer for every Hong Kong team’s moment,” he said, emphasizing that victory is the only goal.
