The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) sent nine representatives to take part in the torch relay for the 15th National Games on Sunday.
The Club's CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team, serving as Group Volunteers for the Hong Kong Competition Region, cheered for the torchbearers along the route.
As the sole Partner Sponsor of the Hong Kong Competition Region for the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, HKJC expressed its honor in participating in the torch relay, showcasing its vitality and unity while reaffirming its full support for the Games.
Martin Liao Cheung-kong, chairman of HKJC, served as the 4th torchbearer, carrying the flame along the Central and Western Promenade.
The Club's chief executive officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges completed the relay as the 47th torchbearer on the final stretch at Kai Tak.
In a significant display of teamwork, two legs of the Hong Kong relay featured groups of torchbearers, including representatives from the HKJC. Among them was Vincent Ho Chak-yiu, the city's first home-grown jockey to win the LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship, accompanied by six other Club representatives from various divisions, some of whom are retired athletes.
HKJC has committed over HK$500 million to Hong Kong and Guangdong Competition Regions. For the Hong Kong Competition Region, the Club is supporting volunteer service programs, territory-wide community initiatives and school promotional activities, as well as efforts to help underprivileged groups and youths attend events as spectators.
In the Guangdong Competition Region, HKJC is also providing high-quality technician support for the equestrian events in Shenzhen, drawing on its extensive experience in organizing horse sports competitions. They are also sending an expert team and loaning specialist equipment to the events.
The Club is also sponsoring the Hong Kong Sports Institute to offer cash awards to Hong Kong athletes who win medals at the Games under Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme.
