Revellers spared no effort on their outfits, with families, fashion enthusiasts, and first-time visitors alike turning the narrow lanes into a living parade of ghosts, anime heroes, and original creations.
One local man spent months crafting a forest-themed ensemble for himself and his friends, complete with handmade headpieces and garments produced entirely in Hong Kong, before joining the planned procession and bar-hopping spree.
Another father accompanied his young daughter dressed as a pumpkin princess, distributing sweets to passers-by ahead of a relaxed evening drink.
Mainland students studying in the city made special trips to soak up the festivities, arriving in game and anime-inspired looks that drew dozens of photo requests.
A master’s student experiencing Lan Kwai Fong for the first time marveled at the dense, creative crowd in her Lolita-style witch attire, while others praised the city for embracing the holiday with an enthusiasm rarely seen back home.
Business boomed as bars and restaurants reported bookings filled weeks in advance, with many venues staying open through the night and rolling out haunted houses, magic shows, and tarot readings to keep the party going.
Anthea Cheung So-may, director of the Lan Kwai Fong Association, noted that the Friday timing doubled pedestrian flow compared to the previous year and projected overall turnover to rise between 15 and 25 percent, marking one of the district’s strongest Halloween performances yet.
