The Hong Kong government will expand its Immigration Facilitation Scheme for Visitors Participating in Short-term Activities in Designated Sectors starting Saturday, adding five new sectors — Environment, Occupational Safety and Health, Maritime, Think Tanks, and Others.
Under the updated scheme, more non-local professionals will be able to take part in designated short-term activities in Hong Kong without the need to apply for a work visa or entry permit, provided they are invited by authorized organizations.
In addition to the new sectors, the government will also add more recognized organizations and activities under the seven existing sectors. With this expansion, the scheme will now cover a total of 17 sectors and around 490 authorised organisations.
Launched in June 2022, the scheme aims to attract global talent and enhance Hong Kong’s role as an international event and professional exchange hub.
According to government figures, more than 38,000 non-local professionals have benefited from the program as of the end of last month.
Participants have included visitors attending major events such as the Chinese New Year Parade, the Asian Financial Forum, and the Hong Kong Sevens.
