A 63-year-old maintenance worker was found dead at a temple cemetery in Tuen Mun on Wednesday afternoon in what police suspect was a fatal chainsaw accident.
Police received a report around 5pm that a male employee was found unconscious with leg injuries at Tsing Shan Monastery. Emergency personnel confirmed the man, surnamed Lai, dead at the scene.
Colleagues had noticed Lai missing around 4pm during his scheduled shift from 9am to 5:30pm. They later discovered him near a gravesite within the temple grounds, bleeding profusely from a deep wound on his left leg.
Officers found neatly cut branches and a bloodstained chainsaw at the scene. Initial investigation suggests Lai accidentally sawed his leg while trimming branches, leading to fatal blood loss.
The case has been classified as an industrial accident with no suspicious circumstances. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
