The two most highly sought-after fast-food stalls at the Victoria Park Lunar New Year Fair were sold for HK$230,000 and HK$155,000 respectively in a public bidding starting on Monday (Oct 27).
It represents a 26 percent increase in the bidding price for the top-priced stall, amounting to HK$48,000 more than the previous year.
The city’s largest Lunar New Year Fair will feature 400 stalls, open for public bidding in batches for three days. Four fast-food and 73 wet goods stalls were auctioned on Monday, attracting nearly 100 participants.
Fast Food Stall C, which is located near the Causeway Bay entrance and exit, received the highest bids, selling for HK$230,000 -- HK$120,000 above the opening price -- making it the top-priced stall.
In contrast, Stall D had a quieter bidding, selling for HK$155,000 after only six bids, down from HK$180,000 in 2025. Wu, who successfully bid for Stall D, said the price was in line with market rates and even lower than he had anticipated.
Stalls A and B, near the Tin Hau entrance and exit, saw only three and two bids, selling for HK$140,000 and HK$130,000, respectively, compared to the opening prices of HK$120,470.
The dry goods stalls of the Victoria Park Lunar New Year Fair will be auctioned on Tuesday (Oct 28) and Thursday (Oct 30).
Chow Kam-hung, senior superintendent of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), said that the bidding atmosphere was similar to last year, but fast-food stall prices rose, suggesting improving market conditions.
The Lunar New Year Fairs will be held across the city at 14 locations and will be open for seven days from February 11 to 17. A total of 915 wet goods stalls, 647 dry goods stalls and 26 fast food stalls will be provided.
The six fairs on Hong Kong Island, in Islands District and in Kowloon will be located at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, Tat Tung Road Garden in Tung Chung, Fa Hui Park and Cheung Sha Wan Playground in Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong Recreation Ground in Kwun Tong and To Kwa Wan Recreation Ground in Kowloon City.
As for the New Territories, 533 wet goods stalls, 226 dry goods stalls and six fast food stalls will be set up at eight Fairs. They are located at Sha Tsui Road Playground in Tsuen Wan, Tin Hau Temple Fung Shui Square in Tai Po, Tung Tau Industrial Area Playground in Yuen Long, Shek Wu Hui Playground in North District, Tin Hau Temple Plaza in Tuen Mun, Po Hong Park in Tseung Kwan O, Kwai Chung Sports Ground in Kwai Tsing and Yuen Wo Playground in Sha Tin.
New safety regulations require stallholders to secure bamboo scaffolding and mobile tents with sandbags to withstand strong winds, as several stalls collapsed due to strong winds last year.
The FEHD will coordinate with the Hong Kong Observatory to inform stallholders of weather conditions.
