A burst saltwater pipe in Tsing Yi caused significant flooding on a major road early Friday morning, forcing pedestrians to wade through water and leading to partial road closures near key emergency services buildings.
Water gushed onto the streets of Tsing Yi after a saltwater pipe ruptured opposite the Tsing Yi Fire Station on Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui Road.
The incident, reported to police shortly after 7am, affected the pedestrian walkway and one lane of traffic in the area, particularly outside the nearby Tsing Yi Police Married Quarters.
Officials from the Water Supplies Department quickly responded to the scene to isolate and shut off the affected valve, helping to contain the flow.
Despite the disruption, operations at the fire station and the police report room remained fully functional throughout the event.
As a result of the flooding, a section of Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui Road heading toward Fung Shue Wo Road, close to the fire station, has been temporarily closed.
