Hong Kong may finally get a respite from the prolonged summer heat that has broken historical records this October. The Observatory forecasts a significant temperature drop early next week.
The city has endured exceptionally high temperatures despite the "Autumn commences" passing over two months ago. A new record was set this month for the most "Hot Days" in October since records began in 1884.
Relief is in sight as a northeast monsoon is expected to reach the south China coast. This weather system is predicted to bring noticeably cooler conditions to the region.
According to the Observatory's latest nine-day forecast, temperatures will begin to fall on Monday. The minimum temperature is expected to dip to around 24 degrees Celsius.
A more significant drop is expected on Tuesday, with the mercury forecast to fall to a low of 23 degrees. The maximum temperature will be around 29 degrees, with dry conditions during the day.
The coming days, however, will still bring isolated showers and only brief periods of sunshine. The latter part of this week is expected to remain generally fine and very warm.
The anticipated cool change will offer a welcome break from the record-breaking heat that has persisted deep into the autumn season.
