The government has scrapped a proposal to build an exhibition hall in Wan Chai to showcase the Northern Metropolis and Kau Yi Chau developments, which was estimated to cost between HK$600 million and HK$700 million.
The facility, which was initially proposed last year by the Development Bureau, was planned to be built at the Wan Chai North waterfront site on Fenwick Pier Street, with a projected completion date of 2027.
The 2023 policy address highlighted the need for a large-scale exhibition hall to showcase major projects, leading the government to select the Wan Chai North Promenade.
The Bureau stated that the project was shelved after considering public feedback and views from the Legislative Council regarding the infrastructure hall in the area.
The government's current work priorities were also taken into account.
Instead, the authorities will establish an exhibition community centre in the Northern Metropolis and promote the development projects online to inform the public.
