The Transport and Logistics Bureau noted that inflation has surpassed 130 percent over the last 34 years, believing that the new toll will have minimal impact on traffic while helping to stabilize tunnel operations financially.
To facilitate a smooth transition, the Transport Department will update its systems and notify drivers through the "HKeToll" and "HKeMobility" apps.
Additional details can also be found on the Transport Department's website.
In a document submitted to the LegCo earlier, it is reported that both tunnels are projected to continue operating at a loss in the upcoming fiscal year, with projected deficits of HK$21 million for the Aberdeen Tunnel and HK$52 million for the Shing Mun Tunnel.
Following the adjustments, it is anticipated to generate around HK$157 million in annual revenue for the Aberdeen Tunnel and HK$132 million for the Shing Mun Tunnel.
