Celebrating 140 years of standing alongside the people of Hong Kong over the past year, The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced its results for the 2024/25 financial year on Friday. Despite a challenging economic environment and continued threats from illegal gambling, total wagering and lottery turnover for the year was up 5.0 percent to HK$320.3 billion, setting a new record.
This enabled the Club to maintain its strong support for the community with a total contribution of HK$39.1 billion. This comprised a record HK$28.8 billion in betting duty and profits tax, HK$1.3 billion in Lotteries Fund contributions, and HK$9.0 billion in approved charity donations to support 202 charities and community projects.
The Club welcomed record numbers of tourists to the racecourses in the last racing season, including more than 195,000 Mainland visitors - up 110 percent on the previous season - plus a significant number of overseas visitors. This stemmed in large part from the HKSAR Government’s support for racing tourism, as well as the Club’s collaboration with various partners. Through ongoing refurbishment of racecourse facilities and elevation of the trackside entertainment experience, the Club is seeking to attract even more local, Mainland and overseas racegoers, thereby contributing to Hong Kong’s tourist economy and its international connectivity.
As a world-class sports organisation, the Club is also strongly committed to sports development, at both the elite and community levels. Looking ahead to this year’s 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games, the Club has committed over HK$500 million as sole Partner Sponsor of the Hong Kong Competition Region and in support of the Guangdong Competition Region.
With the new racing season commencing this Sunday (7 September), the Club is inviting everyone to Sha Tin Racecourse to witness the traditional opening celebration, including striking of the lucky gong. The Club is hoping to ignite a passion for horse racing while immersing racegoers in an exhilarating environment with vibrant entertainment experiences.
