The suspect, identified as a member of the Sun Yee On triad syndicate, was captured by mainland police after fleeing across the border following the November 1 attack.
He was handed over to Hong Kong authorities at the Shenzhen Bay Port on August 25 and taken to the crime scene the next day to reenact the incident.
During the reenactment, the suspect—hooded, handcuffed, and escorted by officers—simulated the assault using a replica weapon at the minibus stop where the 50-year-old correctional officer was ambushed.
The officer suffered multiple lacerations and a fractured hand in the attack, which involved three assailants armed with blunt objects.
Police revealed that the suspect is believed to be one of the direct perpetrators of the assault. He has been charged with one count of "conspiracy to wound with intent" and is scheduled to appear at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts on August 27.
His bail application was denied, and he remains in custody.
The investigation, led by the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, previously resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals—11 men and two women—linked to the case. Eight have already been charged, with roles ranging from direct involvement in the attack to providing logistical support.
Authorities stated that the attack was orchestrated by a Sun Yee On leader who held a personal grudge against the correctional officer from his time in Pik Uk Prison. The assailants used a car with fake license plates and targeted the officer during his lunch break.
Hong Kong police expressed gratitude to mainland authorities for their cooperation in apprehending the fugitive, highlighting the ongoing collaborative efforts under the cross-border operation to combat organized crime.
Investigations continue to locate the two remaining fugitives.
