The fire originated in the second-floor kitchen of a Thai food takeaway shop located at the Shek O Roundabout. The intense blaze emitted thick, black smoke that billowed into the sky and engulfed the surrounding area.
The owner of a nearby convenience store reported that the takeaway's kitchen was fully ablaze and spewing dense smoke during the incident. A father and son surnamed Leung, residents in the vicinity, witnessed the fire. Leung described that the kitchen was actively cooking when it suddenly caught fire, calling it a "big fire accident."
Diners waiting to collect their orders were promptly evacuated as the fire broke out. Some villagers assisted in initial firefighting efforts in an attempt to prevent the flames from spreading further.
Another resident, Mr. Lee, stated that upon discovering the fire, he saw dark, dense smoke and a significant number of firefighters already on the scene. Lee expressed feeling frightened and described the emergency response as a large-scale operation, something he had never seen before.
