An 86-year-old man was found unconscious in the waters off Hoi Sham Park in To Kwa Wan early Friday morning.
Police received a report around 6am today about a person floating in the sea, suspected to be drowning.
Rescue personnel retrieved the man and performed emergency CPR, but he remained unresponsive. He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that the man, surnamed Cheung, had left home the previous night without notice, prompting his family to search for him.
His son arrived at the scene, distressed after learning of the incident.
No suicide note was found, but police believe Cheung may have taken his own life due to illness-related despair.
The exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
