Hong Kong's two largest supermarket chains have urgently removed Coca-Cola Plus and 7 Up products from shelves following police reports of deliberate contamination.
Wellcome and PARKnSHOP supermarkets took swift action after authorities arrested a 63-year-old man suspected of tampering with bottled beverages by allegedly adding urine before returning them to store displays.
Major supermarket chains Wellcome and PARKnSHOP have confirmed they have removed the implicated products from their shelves as a precautionary measure.
Wellcome stated that the company takes the incident very seriously and has been in close contact with suppliers.
As a preventive measure, the affected items have been pulled from stores. The supermarket emphasized its commitment to food safety and hygiene, adding that customer well-being is its top priority.
PARKnSHOP said it immediately launched an investigation and has stepped up store inspections and communication protocols.
The retailer clarified that no customer complaints related to the contaminated products have been received so far.
Nevertheless, as a safety measure, all branches have been instructed to remove the suspect items.
Customers who believe they may have purchased affected products can contact PARKnSHOP’s customer service hotline at 2606 8658 for assistance.
The supermarket assured full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
