The decision was made by the Board of Governors following the recent passing of Henry Hu Hung-lick, who served as both Chancellor and President of the institution he co-founded.
Hu Fai-chung, a University of California, Berkeley PhD graduate, has been an integral part of Shue Yan since 1985.
As Deputy President since 2015, he has spearheaded the university's administrative operations, academic advancement, campus expansion, and its historic transition to full university status.
The university praised his four decades of service in upholding its founding principle of "Cultivating virtues of benevolence; broadening horizons and knowledge."
“[Hu Fai-chung] embodies the educational vision of the University’s founders, Chung Chi-yung and Hu Hung-lick," a university spokesperson stated, referencing the acting president's parents, who established Hong Kong's first private university in 1971.
