Man kneels during police stop in Cheung Sha Wan over e-bike violations

A middle-aged man in Cheung Sha Wan was seen kneeling on the street after being stopped by police officers for allegedly riding an unlicensed electric bicycle. 

Photos circulating online since yesterday (Jul 23) show the man kneeling beside his e-bike while four uniformed officers spoke to him. 

The post claimed the man was a food delivery rider operating the e-bike at the time.  

According to sources, officers from the Cheung Sha Wan patrol unit were conducting an anti-crime operation around 11.42am on Cheung Fat Street and Un Chau Street when they spotted the man riding the e-bike without a helmet and without pedaling.  

Police stopped him for safety reasons and later determined that the vehicle was powered solely by an electric motor, lacked third-party insurance, and was unregistered. 

The 39-year-old suspect, surnamed Chan, was arrested on suspicion of "driving an unlicensed vehicle," "driving without a license," "driving without third-party insurance," and "riding without an approved safety helmet."
