(Pictures) Wartime artillery barrel found in Tsim Sha Tsui

A suspected wartime artillery barrel was discovered at a construction site near the Urban Council Centenary Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui on Tuesday, and a bomb disposal squad has been deployed to handle the device.

Police received a report at around 12.10pm that an approximately 5-meter-long bomb was found at the site and believe the device dated back to the wartime era.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been called, and approximately 40 workers at the construction site have been evacuated as a precaution.

After investigation, it was found that the device was not a bomb but an artillery barrel, according to the police.

All lanes of the section of Granville Road (both bounds) between Chatham Road South and Science Museum Road -- which was closed due to the incident -- are re-opened to all traffic.
