Zhou Ji, the newly appointed director of Beijing’s liaison office in Hong Kong, met with Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu for the second time in three days, pledging full support for Hong Kong’s development.
During yesterday’s meeting at the liaison office, Zhou stated: “The chief executive and the HKSAR government not only are the administrators of Hong Kong but also bear the primary responsibility for its governance.”
“I will perform my duties by the law and fully support Hong Kong in achieving better development.”
In a social media post following the meeting, Lee noted that he and Zhou “share the same vision,” and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the successful implementation of the “one country, two systems” framework.
He promised to work tirelessly for the welfare of citizens and Hong Kong’s progress, vowing to “seize opportunities, face difficulties head-on, overcome challenges, and actively promote Hong Kong’s transition from stability to prosperity.”
The latest talks followed the two top officials’ Saturday discussion at Government House, the chief executive’s official residence, just a day after Zhou assumed office on May 30, succeeding Zheng Yanxiong.
On Sunday, the top representative to Hong Kong made his first community visit, inspecting a health check service program for senior citizens at two locations, the Kowloon Women’s Organisations Federation’s Lau Shun Man Fu Cheong Women Service Centre in Sham Shui Po and Cheung Hang Community Hall in Tsing Yi.
