Lawmaker raises concerns over Tseung Kwan O Line disruption, suggests more than power issue

Lawmaker Gary Zhang Xinyu, a former MTR engineer, expressed skepticism during a live social media broadcast on Thursday evening about the rail operator's explanation for the service suspension on the Tseung Kwan O Line.

Zhang raised doubts about the likelihood that a mere power supply issue could have led to the complete shutdown of service along the entire line. 

He pointed out that typical electrical faults would not normally warrant such an extensive response. He noted the presence of numerous fire trucks at the scene, suggesting that the situation was more complex than a routine power trip.

Furthermore, the lawmaker mentioned receiving unconfirmed reports indicating that at least one train had been stranded in the cross-harbor tunnel, necessitating the evacuation of passengers along the tracks to safety.
