Hong Kong singer and actress Rainky Wai, 31, whose real name is Lau Sin-wah, has been charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) with theft, fraud, and attempted fraud in connection with a HK$5.8 million investment scam.
Rainky, a director and shareholder of ScR Dr. Pro Holdings Limited (ScR Dr. Pro), is accused of misleading a shareholder by allegedly inflating the costs of purchasing aesthetic medical equipment and renovations, and siphoning off over HK$3.1 million. The ICAC has granted her bail, and she is scheduled to appear at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on May 12.
Despite the charges, Rainky appears unfazed, recently posting updates from Seoul on her Instagram.
Today, she shared a workout video and later made a statement regarding the case, saying that she has entrusted her legal matters to her representatives. She mentioned that her lawyers have advised her not to comment on the case details at this stage.
However, she expressed confidence that the law is fair and just, believing that the truth will prevail and those who act maliciously will face consequences. She also expressed appreciation for the concern and support from her friends and colleagues in the industry.
Rainky, who grew up in public housing in Tuen Mun, entered the entertainment industry at 13 after being scouted as a teen model. She dropped out of school in Form 1 and later participated in the 2011 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, although she was eliminated in the top 20. Over the years, she signed with various management companies, including one owned by Natalis Chan Pak Cheung, and ventured into singing and acting.
She gained more recognition after joining TVB, appearing in dramas such as "A Love of No Words", "Speakers of Law", and "Unchained Medley". She left the company in 2023 to pursue opportunities in mainland China.
In recent years, Rainky has showcased a luxurious lifestyle on social media, flaunting designer goods, fine dining, and travels abroad. She previously denied rumors of dating a wealthy Malaysian businessman, clarifying that they had separated years ago.
Her Instagram posts have featured high-end indulgences, including caviar and what appears to be a Van Cleef & Arpels watch (priced at around HK$121,000). She has also been seen residing in a private villa with a swimming pool, sparking discussions about her sudden wealth.
