The festival marks Europe Day, observed annually on May 9 to commemorate peace and unity across the continent. While diplomatic events will be held on the official date, the weekend cultural festival represents a new initiative to engage the Hong Kong public.
Visitors can enjoy authentic European food and wine while taking in live performances including Belgian DJ Adrian's electronic mixes and highlights from the opera Carmen by Hong Kong Opera.
Family-friendly activities such as dance workshops and European language introductions will also be featured throughout the day at the free-admission event.
Harvey Rouse, Head of the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao, said this first public celebration aims to share the EU's spirit of "Unity in Diversity" with Hong Kong.
"We want to showcase Europe's rich cultures, culinary traditions, commitment to sustainability and innovative spirit," Rouse explained, adding that the event could foster closer EU-Hong Kong ties and future collaboration opportunities.
Europe Day originates from the historic Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950, which proposed groundbreaking economic and political cooperation in postwar Europe. The day was formally established in 1985, with this year's 75th anniversary adding special significance to celebrations.
The Europe Day Festival 2025 runs from 12noon to 7pm on May 10 at PMQ in Central, with free admission for all visitors.
