The week-long celebration, themed "Hong Kong and Shanghai: Connections through Arts and Culture," will mark the first time WKCDA presents its signature programs outside Hong Kong since its establishment in 2008.
The ambitious initiative will see Hong Kong's premier cultural district collaborate with six leading Shanghai arts institutions to present seven diverse programmes across visual arts, performing arts and cultural exchanges.
Highlights include exhibitions from M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the highly praised original Cantonese musical "The Impossible Trial," as well as traditional xiqu performances, music and dance productions.
As a prelude to the main event, Shanghai's Power Station of Art will partner with M+ to present "I.M. Pei: Life Is Architecture" starting April 26 - the first major exhibition collaboration between the two institutions that will set the stage for the cultural dialogue to follow.
Highlighting the significance of the exchange, WKCDA CEO Betty Fung said both Hong Kong and Shanghai are global cities where East meets West, which share a special cultural connection.
“Through the rich and diverse programmes presented by WestK and the exchange of artistic talent and cross-disciplinary collaboration, we aim to strengthen cultural ties between Hong Kong and Shanghai, ultimately enriching and diversifying the cultural landscape of both cities.”
