Following the installation of a one-stop self-service kiosk for the International Driving Permit (IDP) at both the Hong Kong and Kowloon Licensing Offices in mid-January, a high demand for appointments with smooth operation was observed, according to the Transport Department (TD).

In a recent social media post, the department highlighted the convenience of the self-service kiosk, noting the public will no longer need to bring passport photos.
After making an online appointment to visit the licensing office for the IDP application, the user will need to authenticate their identity and digitally sign through the “iAM Smart+” system at the kiosk.
The users will then verify their e-contact information by scanning the proof of address dated within the last three months and taking the required photo on-site.
Applicants can collect their documents within an hour at the designated counter in the same Licensing Office once they made the electronic payment.
In addition to the self-service stations, TD stressed that online applications for IDP are currently the most popular electronic licensing service, with the proportion of online applications rising to nearly 44 percent by the end of 2024.
The department encouraged citizens to utilize online services to improve processing efficiency.
The kiosks are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. Citizens with a Hong Kong identity card and a valid Hong Kong full driving license that has not expired for more than three years can make reservations using the online booking system.
