Hong Kong-based supermodel and pastry chef Amanda Strang, who has excelled in both the modeling and culinary worlds, has recently made a splash in the pastry scene by launching a pop-up store for her brand, Flakes & Layers, in Causeway Bay.
Located at the International Financial Centre (IFC), the store features an array of uniquely designed Ooonut and cookies, both created by the model herself to represent her diverse identities.
Amanda S has always been passionate about pastry creation. Not only did she study culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, she also opened her first French bakery and dessert shop -- petite Amanda -- 15 years ago, which sparked a buying frenzy.
Despite the store's closure, the celebrity model launched her baking brand, Flakes & Layers, during the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to share happiness and joy through the dessert amid challenging times.
Amanda S said Ooonut is inspired by her breakfast moments with her dad, who blends her favorite donut with French croissant techniques.
Amanda S also revealed she tends to invite friends to taste new flavors of her products, describing cooking as a form of meditation to relieve stress.
Following a divorce and her father's passing, the model noted there are always highs and lows in life, emphasizing the importance of self-love.
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and makes you wiser," she added, encouraging the public to believe in themselves.
As the pop-up store opened again in IFC, the model regarded it as fate, expressing hope to extend the duration if enthusiastic support is received.
When asked whether she would open another store, Strang revealed that while there are no specific plans at the moment, it's something she would consider in the future.
The pop-up store has been extended until May 14, operating from 10am to 8.30pm.
