Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) experienced a widespread internet outage on Friday, affecting users in multiple districts, including Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Tin Shui Wai, and parts of Hong Kong Island East.
The telecom provider acknowledged the disruption in a social media post this afternoon, stating that its engineering team was working urgently to restore services. It apologized for the inconvenience and promised to provide updates on repair progress.
Customers took to HKBN’s Facebook page to express frustration over the outage, with many reporting connectivity issues since around 10am.
"No internet means I can’t run my business… Your store staff says it’s not their problem!"
"I called for 30 minutes but couldn’t get through to customer service!"
"Yuen Long is completely cut off from the world! Thanks a lot!"
"Our whole village has no internet, and the hotline keeps disconnecting!"
As of now, HKBN has not provided a timeline for full service restoration. The company urged affected users to stay patient while technicians work to resolve the issue.
The outage highlights growing concerns over Hong Kong’s digital infrastructure resilience, particularly as remote work and online services remain essential.
