The first batch of three non-locally trained dentists officially began service after completing a week of introductory training, the Department of Health (DH) announced on Wednesday.
The department noted that it has received over 90 applications and issued 12 letters of appointment following a rigorous selection process while the registration matters are possessed by the Dental Council of Hong Kong (DCHK).
Three of the dentists obtained approval for limited registration in February and were assigned to serve in government dental clinics starting March 10.
The new dentists obtained their professional qualifications from Mainland and overseas institutions, respectively, according to the Consultant in-charge Kitty Hse Mei-yin, of Dental Services of the DH.
Hse added that this new batch is proficient in Cantonese and holds practical experience working in the Mainland, the UK, and Australia.
In addition, she emphasized that the department will maintain close contact with the DCHK to expedite the vetting and approval of registration applications for non-locally trained dentists, to meet local dental service demands.
