Police said that the naked chat blackmail and compensated dating scam cases have skyrocketed in recent months, with 156 sextortion scam reports involving over HK$3.4 million in the past month.
Officers noted on Monday that 11 students were being victimized in the cases, including two as young as 14 years old.
Scammers often target victims through social media platforms and online gaming apps. Common tactics included luring victims to participate in sexually explicit video chats, where scammers would use the recorded footage to blackmail them.
Authorities urged parents to closely monitor their children's online activities and to educate them about the dangers of interacting with strangers online.
Parents were also advised to teach their children to avoid any form of nudity during video calls and to refrain from responding to inappropriate messages.
