The incident took place around noon on Saturday (March 29) when a son, accompanied by his mother who relies on an electric wheelchair for mobility after suffering a stroke, were dining at a restaurant on Lai Chi Kok Road.
Upon realizing the wheelchair outside the eatery was missing, the 41-year-old son surnamed Chong promptly contacted the police.
After reviewing the restaurant's CCTV footage, officers identified a male suspect who had made off with the electric wheelchair and fleeing toward Shek Kip Mei Street.
Chong shared the incident on social media to express his frustration, noting the suspect was a middle-aged man dressed in dark clothing and seen limping with a cane.
Further investigations into nearby shop CCTV footage revealed that the suspect had headed to Tai Nan Street, where he tested the wheelchair before vanishing.
Chong appealed to the public to provide any information regarding the suspect to assist the police's investigation.
Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made so far.
