Hongkongers have reported a continued decline in happiness for five consecutive years, according to the World Happiness Report 2025 released on Thursday.

The ranking is based on a three-year average of each population’s self-assessed quality of life, with experts evaluating factors such as GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, sense of freedom, and social support.
The results showed that Finland ranks as the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year, while Costa Rica and Mexico entered the top 10 for the first time, ranking 6th and 10th, respectively.
Hong Kong fell to its lowest-ever position, dropping from 77th in 2021 to 88th this year, with residents reporting an average score of 5.491 out of 10 when asked to evaluate their lives over the past three years.
Meanwhile, mainland China ranked 68th on the list, while Singapore ranked 34th and Japan came in at 55th.
