While "Blind date corner" is popular among mainland parents, some citizens have recently discovered a similar one on Mong Kok Footbridge that led the online community to humorously noted finding true love via flyers.
Blind date corner refers to mainland parents pinning up flyers in the community park containing information about their unmarried children -- including images, education levels, income, assets, and partner preference -- hoping to arrange a blind date for their next generation.
A passerby shared the scene of Hong Kong's blind date corner at the footbridge in Mong Kok East, where not only the signage "blind date corner" is displayed but also several flyers with personal information from people of various ages.
The trend from the mainland has amused the online community, with some describing the corner as a real-life dating app, joking blind date corner has made its way to the city.
However, some commenters speculated that this might be a promotional effort by mainland blind date companies as the companies' names are printed on the flyers.
Meanwhile, concerns have arisen over the public display of personal information, with some web users worrying it might violate the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
Additionally, other commenters expressed worries about the potential rise of bogus marriages in the city, encouraging the poster to report to the authorities about the illegal flyers.
Under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, anyone displaying bills or posters without permission could face up to a HK$10,000 fine, along with a daily fine of HK$300.
