In response to public feedback, Shenzhen North Railway Station is set to introduce a permanent security check exemption for passengers transferring from high-speed trains to subways, aiming to streamline the process and enhance the overall travel experience.
In recent years, the requirement for a secondary security screening at Shenzhen North Railway Station when transferring from high-speed trains to the subway has been a point of contention among travelers.
Many have expressed frustration over the cumbersome and time-consuming process, especially when handling luggage. In light of these concerns, the Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Department has announced plans to expedite the creation of a security check exemption for these transfers.
This initiative is designed to improve the passenger flow management during peak times and enhance the transportation environment at the station. A dedicated, security check-exempt area will be established at the East Square exit of Shenzhen North Railway Station, providing direct access to underground Line 5 and elevated Lines 4 and 6.
Specific enhancements include the addition of a new security check-exempt escalator and stairway from the third floor's East Square directly to the Line 5 station hall on the first floor. Meanwhile, the arrangement for Lines 4 and 6 will primarily utilize the existing temporary security check-exempt pathway that was operational during holidays.
Shenzhen Metro reports that the peak daily passenger flow on Line 5 currently stands at 210,000 entries and exits, with significant numbers transferring between Lines 4, 5, and 6. The implementation of the security check exemption is expected to significantly ease the peak daily passenger flow, which reaches 109,000 for high-speed train transfers to the Line 5 subway.
The average daily passenger flow at Shenzhen North Railway Station has now reached twice its designed capacity, leading to traffic congestion and increased pressure on passenger flow management.
The new security exemption is anticipated to alleviate these issues, ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience for all passengers.
