The footage, which surfaced on social media yesterday (Mar 6), captures a young girl in an apricot-colored shirt struggling to maintain her balance, eventually stumbling and falling on the platform of a light rail station.
This incident highlights a growing concern over the increasing trend of teenagers consuming 'space oil,' a substance containing etomidate, which the government recently classified as a dangerous drug.
In another video, approximately 29 seconds long, the same girl is seen sitting alone on the light rail train, inhaling from what appears to be an electronic cigarette and exhaling large clouds of vapor.
Despite the concerned glances from fellow passengers, she continued unabated. Upon the train's arrival at the station, she attempted to stand but displayed a blank expression and unsteady steps, forcing her to grasp the railing for support.
Concerned netizens noted that the girl disembarked at Tin Shui Wai station and wore the school trousers of a local school, suggesting she might reside and study in the area.
The ease with which children can acquire space oil has alarmed the community, with many expressing distress over the impact of such substances on young lives.
The Tin Shui Wai police confirmed that the girl, a 13-year-old Form 2 student, was involved in the incident which occurred around 7 pm yesterday.
Following a report from citizens, police located the girl at the Tin Shui Shopping Centre, where they found her in possession of an electronic cigarette and a cartridge suspected to contain 'space oil.' She was arrested on suspicion of possessing dangerous drugs.
