Hong Kong might miss another opportunity to attract prominent stars to perform in the city, as sources revealed that Singapore is poised to exclusively host Grammy-winning singer Lady Gaga's tour in Southeast Asia this May.
According to Singaporean newspaper Lianhe Zaobao, sources indicated that the pop star will hold four to six concerts at the Singapore National Stadium, which is expected to create a frenzy similar to that caused by Taylor Swift's Eras Tour last year.
It is understood that the pop star will not hold concerts in any other Asian city in the near future, leading fans to speculate that Singapore will be the exclusive host in Southeast Asia for the largest world tour in her career, which was announced earlier by Live Nation.
The Singapore Tourism Board did not provide a direct response to inquiries about the concert, merely stating that they welcome more world-class performances to be held in Singapore.
Reports suggested that the Taylor Swift concerts last year boosted Singapore's gross domestic product to 2.7 percent in the first quarter, while Hong Kong's former tourism chief Kevin Yeung Yun-hung faced criticism for not making sufficient efforts to attract the star to the city.
Apart from the world tour, Lady Gaga is scheduled to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April in the United States. She will also perform at a free concert at the Copacabana Beach in Brazil on May 3.
