Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu met with Hong Kong representatives from the national legislature and political advisory body at government headquarters on Thursday, in preparation for next week’s 2025 Two Sessions in Beijing.
According to a government statement, Lee exchanged views with 100 members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Tuesday and about 30 Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) on Thursday.
“The deputies and members actively provided their insights and ideas by proposing viewpoints and suggestions that aligned with the national development and the actual situation in Hong Kong,” Lee said.
During a two-hour exchange with 36 deputies, discussions covered a wide range of topics, including economic development, the upcoming National Games, and cross-border data flow, as noted by deputy Gordon Lam Chi-wing, who was present at the meeting.
Lam said that they will organize proposals from each deputy and the government, prioritize them, and present them collectively.
He added that while the proposals favor Hong Kong, they also consider the country’s interests.
Starry Lee Wai-king, the city’s sole delegate to the NPC Standing Committee, welcomed the chief executive’s proactive response to the deputies’ suggestions, expressing hope for closer communication and cooperation between NPC deputies and the government.
China will hold the annual sessions of the NPC, its top legislature, and the CPPCC, its political advisory body, known as the "Two Sessions,” on March 4 and 5.
