The last branch of the popular Taiwanese croissant shop Hazukido in Hong Kong has recently ceased operations, indicating a potential withdrawal of the brand from the market in the city.
Renowned for its freshly baked croissants with natural butter and unique folding techniques, Hazukido debuted in Hong Kong in 2018 and expanded to 12 locations during its peak in the city, including Mong Kok, Tseung Kwan O, Tuen Mun Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan and Causeway Bay.
The brand has experienced a number of closures in recent years, with an internet user noting that the last branch in Sheung Shui had been shut down for two weeks.
There has been no official announcement regarding the brand closure in the city on its official Facebook page, which hasn't been updated since last October.
As of the latest price update in October, a general flat croissant is priced at HK$19, while the exclusive Danish toast from the Sheung Shui branch was listed at HK$36.
The closures have elicited various responses from internet users, with many expressing surprise and disappointment as they were unaware that all locations had permanently ceased operations.
Some observers noted that the abrupt closure highlighted a trend of fading popularity, as the APM branch had been open for less than a year.
Several Taiwanese businesses have exited the city recently, including the restaurant Du Hsiao Yueh, the bakery Amo Cake, and the Fried Chicken restaurant Monga.
