A video circulating online lately has brought attention to the government’s oversight of its contractors’ work, with four contract workers hired by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department found posting bills onto lamp posts before filming themselves removing them.
Netizen Roni Wong posted a video on Facebook on Monday, with the footage capturing the four workers in FEHD contractor uniforms allegedly bill posting on lamp posts near the junction of Cheung Sha Wan Road and Nam Cheong Street in Sham Shui Po.
The video then saw the workers filming themselves removing the bills - possibly to be submttied to their supervisors as proof of their work.
Responding to media inquiries, Wong said he initially thought he might have been mistaken, but was shocked to witness the workers boldly engaging in what appeared to be fraudulent behavior while there were numerous passersby in the area.
Wong said he approached and questioned the workers after witnessing them carrying out the same action multiple times.
He recounted that one of the workers shook hands with him and apologized in Mandarin. He also recalled feeling threatened when another worker brandished a utility knife, despite his non-confrontational approach.
Towards the end of the video, Wong met a uniformed officer of the FEHD and brought up the incident, to which the officer suggested him to file a complaint through the government’s 1823 mobile app.
