Police said the father-son duo found dead in a Yuen Long village house had bled massively and suffered multiple stab wounds in a harrowing case of double murder and suicide involving three generations.
Officers received a call around 8pm Tuesday regarding two men found unconscious in a ground-floor unit at Chun Hing New Village. The victims, aged 93 and 69, were confirmed dead in the 450-square-foot flat.
Assistant commander of the Yuen Long crime unit, Johnathan Kwan Chun-hin, told a media briefing today that the father suffered injuries to his face, neck and back, while the son had cuts and stabs in his face, neck, forearm and chest.
A 21-centimeter knife and a pair of 20cm scissors were found at the scene, both stained with blood, Kwan added.
“Since there was massive bleeding and quite a number of wounds on the victims, it posed challenges to on-site examinations, requiring a lot of cleaning before further tests could be conducted to determine the cause of deaths,” he said.
“[We will] check security camera footage and perform forensic tests to reconstruct what happened in the flat.”
Officers also reported that a 19-year-old man died of bone fractures after falling from the 18th floor of Yuet Ping House in Long Ping Estate, located just 500 meters from the family home.
This young man was confirmed to be the grandson, who made the call to the police about the incident shortly before his fall.
Preliminary investigations showed the father-son pair arrived at the village house before the grandson did, and the grandson later left the place alone before returning to the public housing estate in the same district.
Police suspected one of the three men was involved in the double murder.
Officers are still trying to determine the motive. They will investigate the family ties of the three family members, their background and whether they had any arguments or money disputes.
It also came to light that the elderly man had previously refused to sell a plot of land he owned in Yuen Long and was embroiled in a legal dispute over land issues.
The 93-year-old, identified as Man Yin-kwan in a District Court ruling issued today, was suspected to be the defendant in this civil lawsuit.
The plaintiff, New Market Development Limited, co-owned a 16,570-square-meter plot of land in Yuen Long with Man.
The dispute began when the company offered to purchase Man’s share for HK$2.4 million, which he rejected, countering with a price of HK$23.7 million -- 10 times higher.
The company then sued Man for setting an unreasonably high counteroffer.
The court ruled that Man was uncooperative in the acquisition process, dismissing his objections as invalid.
It ordered a partition of the land, believing that maintaining co-ownership was not in the best interest of either party, and ruled in favor of the company, also ordering Man to cover legal costs.
