Two speedboats worth over HK$800,000 were stolen from Gin Drinkers Bay in Kwai Chung, prompting a police investigation on Friday morning.
The theft was reported around 9 am when it was discovered that the two speedboats, previously parked at the bay, were missing. Upon arrival, police initiated an investigation and classified the incident as theft.
The stolen vessels include a 9.8-meter black speedboat, which had been parked at the site since the 25th of this month, and a 7.57-meter blue speedboat, parked there just the day before, on January 30. The estimated values of the boats are HK$200,000 and HK$600,000, respectively.
Typically, the owners would dock their boats along the shore of the typhoon shelter for fishing purposes.
One of the owners, surnamed Chan, mentioned that he frequently used his boat for fishing. The stolen black speedboat, a secondhand purchase, was valued at HK$200,000. He confirmed that the boat was still at its parking spot at 3 pm yesterday (Jan 30) but was missing by 7 am today when he arrived for a fishing trip.
Chan also noted that the other owner had acquired his brand-new blue speedboat two years ago for about HK$600,000.
