The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) on Friday proposed leveraging the appeal of pandas through additional attractions themed around pandas to draw more visitors to Hong Kong.
The DAB conveyed to the government's Working Group on Developing Tourist Hotspots that enhancing panda-related tourism could significantly benefit the local economy. Brave Chan Yung, the vice chair of the DAB, emphasized the potential of transforming Hong Kong's six resident pandas into internet celebrities to attract tourists.
Chan proposed that events centered around pandas be held in all 18 districts of Hong Kong, complete with photo opportunities and thematic decorations to enhance the appeal of these areas. He highlighted that such initiatives would not only engage local residents but also showcase Hong Kong's affection for pandas, thereby enriching the experience for tourists and deepening the connection to regional tourism.
Furthermore, the DAB recommended collaboration with the mainland to elevate the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, along with mainland geoparks, to the status of international brands.
Additional suggestions from the party included introducing a walking tour in the Central and Western districts, allowing tourists to explore local temples while enjoying food and beverages during their visit.
