Hospital Authority chief executive Tony Ko Pat-sing confirmed on Thursday that he will leave his role after leading the organization for six years, with his term concluding at the end of July this year.
Ko succeeded Leung Pak-Yin, beginning his first three-year term on August 1, 2019, and has since been serving a second three-year term from 2022 to the present.
Ko said he decided not to seek reappointment upon the completion of the current contract in July 2025, and start his second career. His decision prompted the HA to initiate global recruitment following its established procedures.
"I aim to continue giving back to the community and the healthcare system from a different perspective," he added.
Ko, a specialist in geriatric medicine, was appointed chief executive of the New Territories West cluster and Tuen Mun Hospital in 2014.
He has also held senior management roles, including chief manager of strategy, service planning, and knowledge management, as well as chief manager of patient safety and risk management.
According to the HA’s latest annual report, Ko earned the highest salary among all HA staff, with an annual compensation exceeding HK$6.8 million in the last fiscal year.
His salary increased by HK$312,000 compared to the previous year's earnings of HK$6.5 million.
